13. Rugby and Sun

After a horrendous week of essay writing, handing them both in on Friday was the best feeling! I can safely say that it’s definitely not my best work, but, they’re done, submitted, bye bye!!

Obviously, post essay hand in, a celebratory drink was required! After work a group of us went to an outside beer garden that has recently opened in Jersey City, NJ, called The Lutze Biergarten. Naturally, go to a beer garden, don’t get beer! But a glass of sangria was just too tempting. Perfect warm, sunny evening with great views of downtown Manhattan:

This weekend the weather in New York was beautiful, so so warm!! Highs of 35ºC on Saturday and 36ºC on Sunday! Perfect weekend to have after a hellish week of essays.

On Saturday I volunteered for the charity Play Rugby USA, a non-profit organisation that uses rugby to inspire children, primarily from under-served communities. It involved working at the USA vs Ireland rugby game, encouraging people to sign up to a raffle Play Rugby was having. It was actually really fun, we had a good group of Mountbatten volunteers, got to talk to a lot of interesting people, even got given drinks from all the people tailgating before the game.

As a thank you from Play Rugby we got to watch the match, which was so much fun!

Post rugby, some of us girls were going to go for casual drinks in Hoboken. Note to self. Never call it casual drinks. Never ends up that way! Ended up rolling in at 3.30am. Oooppsss

To counteract my Saturday night drinking = exercise. Was absolutely boiling on sunday, but at least my workout had good views!

On Sunday there was the Big Apple BBQ food festival in Madison Square Park. Load of the top BBQ chefs were there, each serving up one of their dishes. Even one of the places I used to go to in Alabama was there, Jim ‘n’ Nicks! Oh how I’ve missed southern BBQ ❤️ I had told so many people about this haha, so dragged a few of the girls there with me!

Following the food festival, we walked downtown. In this heat, fro-yo was essential! (its yoghurt, there’s strawberries on top… that makes it healthy right?)

And to top off a great weekend we headed to a rooftop bar, obviously, called Catch, in the Meatpacking District

It’s amazing how much sunny weather makes everyone happier!

New York in the sun is just great, bring on summer!
